Rajamahendravaram: The authorities on Tuesday sounded flood alert as water level in Godavari river is rising due to huge inflows following heavy rains in upper stretches.

As many as one lakh cusecs of water released into the sea from Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram. The water level at the barrage is 10.09 feet and first warning will be issued at 11.75 feet.

All the 175 gates of barrage relating to Dowleswaram, Ryali, Maddur and Vijjeswaram were lifted and the officials are discharging water into the sea.

The water level at Kaleswaram is 2.63 feet, Perur-3.97 feet, Dummugudem-6.17 feet, Bhadrachalam-16.60 feet, Kunavaram-7.05 feet, Kunta-8.50 feet, Koyida-8.28 feet and Polavaram-6.36 feet.

Meanwhile, the Revenue department officials are initiating steps to shift island people to safer places. According to Water Resources Department officials, there will be an increase in the flood waters.
