The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) is celebrating the International Tiger Day in co-ordination with Paryavarna Margadarsi Visakhi at its Tiger Enclosure on Saturday.

Visakhapatnam: The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) is celebrating the International Tiger Day in co-ordination with Paryavarna Margadarsi Visakhi at its Tiger Enclosure on Saturday.

To create awareness on the importance of tiger conservation and public support for protection and expansion of wild tiger habitats, the programme was initiated, said Curator of IGZP B Vijay Kumar.

"Tiger is an Umbrella Species” and an indicator of balanced ecosystem. Being at the top of the food chain, the tiger regulates the population of wild herbivores maintaining a balance. Tiger is a national animal and also got an important place in our Indian culture and mythology symbolising magnificence power and beauty," Vijay Kumar said.
