Anantapur: Zilla Parishad chairman Chaman Saab appeared to be disinclined to quit his post and give way to Nagaraju who is waiting to take over as ZP chairman as per the truce formula of the party high command. The two contenders for the post were asked to share power for two-and-half years each.

The current chairman completed his tenure of 30 months by the end of June and was dithering on quitting the post. The issue had gone to the notice of the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who issued a dictum to quit the post to Chaman as per the agreement. He was supposed to quit a week ago after celebrating his birthday.

He even announced that he would quit last Wednesday, that is on July 26 but continued in his post on the plea that he is not directed by the high command to quit now in the context of Nandyal byelection. Insiders close to the ZP chairman say that Chaman quitting the post as a minority candidate would send wrong message to the community voters in Nandyal byelection.

However, the district in-charge minister Devineni Uma Maheshwar, clarified that Chaman Saab would quit to give room to Nagaraju as per the power sharing formula. The supporters of Nagaraju is anxiously waiting the day when their leader Nagaraju would take over reins of power.
