Visakhapatnam: As part of greenery development initiative, Collector Pravin Kumar launched a programme to plant 11,000 saplings in 700 acres of Steel Plant’s land at Arli village in Vizag district on Wednesday.

During his visit to rural area of the district, the Collector inspected the MNREGS works in Chodavaram, K Kotapadu and Chidikada mandals.

He took stock of drip irrigation works, papaya cultivation, organic farming and Taiwan variety guava plantations before appreciating works of the farmers in K Santhapalem village.

He enquired about the progress of mango orchards developed with the help of MNREGS convergence funds three years ago.
The Collector planted coconut saplings at Kasturiba Girls Residential Hostel as part of institutional plantation scheme. Later, he visited the PHC in Chouduwada and farm pond in Cheemanapalli of Chodavaram mandal.

He interacted with the farmers at Manchala village, where drip irrigation was being taken up in 70 acres with help of solar power pump sets. District Water Management Agency (DWAMA) PD Kalyan Chakaravarty, the DRDA APD and other staff accompanied the Collector during his visit.
