Vamsadhara facing hurdles

So far issues relating to rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package are cleared concerning to side weir, Singidi, Parapuram balancing reservoirs and flood flow canal except R&R payments for reservoir.
In the wake of massive agitation in January this year by residents of 13 displaced villages in Hira mandal, the State government granted Rs 421.80 crore for R&R package by issuing GO MS NO-460. Payments also cleared about 90 per cent so far.
To resume reservoir works officials initiated steps to vacate 13 villagers in a phased manner as part of it they started issuing of ration goods through fair price (FP) shops and pensions distribution at 8 new R&R colonies but still displaced are not interested to vacate.
Residents of displaced villages, Garlapadu, Duggupuram, Tulagam, Padali, Peddasankili, Solipi and other seven villages saying that youth package and payments for houses are yet to be cleared for some persons. Elders of displaced villages P Chittibabu, G Jaganmohan Rao, T Appanna, M.Bhaskar Rao and others clarified that they are ready to vacate after realisation of R&R payments.
“We started issuing of ration and pensions at new R&R colonies but they are not cooperating. We will resolve it through discussions,” Joint Collector KVN Chakradhara Babu told The Hans India.
The government decided to release water from Vamsadhara reservoir on January 5 one month prior to it works must be finished, Joint Collector added. On the other hand, Superintendent of Police C M Trivikrama Varma launched discussions with elders of displaced villages to resolve the issue peacefully.
“We have deployed 300 policemen as a precautionary measure and in the wake of previous agitations,” SP clarified to this newspaper.
