New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh bagged Union Tourism Ministry's top award under comprehensive tourism development programme here on Wednesday.

The award was given away by the President Ram Nath Kovind at a function here on Wednesday. Tourism and Culture Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena and AP Bhawan Resident Commissioner Praveen Prakash received the award. Special Officer of Information Department K Jaya Rao and Assistant Director of Tourism Ramakotaiah accompanied them.

Later speaking to media, Meena said the Tourism department was striving to promote the State as the best tourist destination in the country with strong determination despite the hardships faced by it after the bifurcation.

He said it was a proud moment for the State as the new state could push established internationally renowned tourist destinations like Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala to second and third place respectively.

The State government was laying emphasis on promoting tourism projects and locations in all the 13 districts uniformly with good facilities, he said.
