Idupulapaya (Kadapa dist): YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy has set the tone for electioneering much ahead of the 2019 general elections by embarking on a marathon 3,000 km-long walkathon from the Samadhi of his father and former chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy here on Monday.

He aims to interact with at least 2 crore people spread over 125 Assembly segments during the campaign lasting for seven months and prepare a blueprint of people’s manifesto reflecting the aspirations of various walks of life. The padayatra will highlight the party’s manifesto of Navaratnas or nine promises and expose the ‘failures and lies’ of the TDP government.

Jagan was greeted with selfies, handshakes and hugs as he kickstarted his six-month-long “Praja Sankalpa Yatra.” Followers raised "Ravali Jagan, Kavali Jagan (We want Jagan, we need Jagan)" all along this walk.

Defining the concept of Rajanna Rajyam, Jaganmohan Reddy said his father Rajasekhar Reddy strove hard till he breathed his last to wipe out the tears of farmers, SHG women and senior citizens. “I will carry forward the mission left behind by my father,” he stated.

The Jagan’s promise for “Rajanna Rajyam”, war cry to end the TDP’s ‘corrupt’ regime and anti- Chandrababu vitriol marked the launch of the so-called Praja Sankalpa Yatra. He set out for the programme by paying homage to his father and labeling Naidu as traitor and cheat. Jagan has planned more than 5,000 roadside meetings during his yatra in order to “understand the current sentiment of people from different walks of life”.

When the yellow brigade from the TDP is taking him to task for his talk of corruption after getting tainted in cases of acquiring illicit wealth, Leader of Opposition claimed that people are wishing him to come to power.

Addressing a gathering in this connection, Jagan accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naiud of leading a ‘government of rhetoric’ without any action. Not even a single brick is laid for capital in the last two years since Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone except government spending huge amounts on foreign tours and on capital designs, he alleged.

“Various sections of people such as farmers, students, women etc are thoroughly disillusioned with the government’s alleged non-performance,” he said. Jagan said special category status which the TDP government failed to achieve holds the key to the state’s development and mitigate unemployment. He expressed his resolve to accomplish the task if voted to power. He said he intended to prepare “people’s manifesto” in line with the people’s expectations and feedback which he will accomplish after his foot march.

In a bid to connect to the digital audiences, the YSRC has uploaded the Day-1 video series relating to mass contact programme named “Jagan Speaks” on his official facebook page. Jagan also tweeted his Day-2 padayatra programme in his twitter account. Meanwhile, TDP leaders ridiculed the Jagan’s talk of special category status, asking him to fight it out with the NDA government in Delhi.
