Vastu behind change in Mayor’s chamber
Mayor Koneru Sridhar is moving to a new chamber, ostensibly for Vastu reason. The new chamber will be readied in a few days. Works relating to the same have been progressing at a brisk pace. The present chamber was located near Council Hall.

The new chamber will come up on the first floor of the old building. Four rooms of officials—public relations officer, assistant medical and health officer-3, executive engineer 5 and EE staff room—were vacated to make room for Mayor’s new chamber. The works were started one week ago. A sum of Rs 15 lakh was earmarked for the construction from the general funds, according to an official.
The new chamber is in strict conformity with Vastu and the Mayor probably happy with the pace of works, says a source. A few officials of the corporation and employees have been surprised by the timing of the chamber construction. It is imminent that the present building of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will be moved to some other place.
As part of riverfront beautification, the government had been acquiring land which housed offices like VMC and flower market apart from a portion of Rajiv Gandhi Park. The government probably use the vast land for the construction of hotels and resorts against which some Opposition parties had also agitated. The Mayor completed three-and-a-half-years of his tenure in the same old chamber. He did not talk about any bad omen while in the office all these years.
But now when he wished to move to other chamber, it has become a topic for discussion when two or more staff gather at any place on the premises of the VMC. Especially, the employees are puzzled over his decision to move to new chamber when the entire VMC complex had to be shifted to other premises. The corporation had already handed over new council block (under construction) to Amaravati Development Corporation, according to an official.
