Amaravati: The TDP government will provide reservations to Kapu community without disturbing the existing benefits of the BCs, said BC welfare minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu on Wednesday.

At the same time, he maintained that the government would take a decision based on the report which would be submitted by the experts’ panel under the chairmanship of Manjunath Committee. He was speaking during a debate on welfare in Legislative Council.

The minister added that before the implementation of the reservations to Kapus, the government had initiated measures providing financial assistance through various schemes for them, including scholarships to Kapu students.

To a question raised by MLC Srinivas Reddy on negative impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on weavers’ community, Atchannaidu admitted that handloom weaving sector had suffered severely due to the imposition of GST.

He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote to the Union Finance Minister urging him to consider the suggestions of the weavers’ community to make the vocation viable.
