Visakhapatnam: Former Union Secretary EAS Sarma sought the intervention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to stop the Centre’s move to privatise the Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL).

The DCIL is only PSU, which is attending the dredging needs of Indian Navy and it is very important work to handle by a public-sector unit. The DCIL with 17 most advanced dredgers in its fleet not only attending the dredging works for all the major ports in the country but also Indian Navy.

“The state government has been setting up National Dredge Training Institute at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore at Antervedi in East Godavari district. It is learnt that the government also allocated land to the institute. In this backdrop, the DCIL should continue as a PSU.

Meanwhile, the state government is receiving over Rs 100 crore as revenue collection from DCIL,” Sarma explained in a letter to the Chief Minister on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister of Karnataka rightly intervened and stopped the privatisation of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).
The Karnataka government exerted pressure on the Centre to stop the privitisation of the BEML, Sarma gave an example to Chandrababu Naidu.
