APSRTC dodging TSRTC request

The TSRTC, in an effort to generate additional revenue, has proposed to lease the space in the Bus Bhavan. The space remains vacant since the APSRTC shifted its headquarters to Vijayawada. The five-storyed Bus Bhavan has two blocks ‘A’ and ‘B’ and the ‘B’ block is occupied by the TSRTC and ‘A’ block was allotted to the APSRTC when the corporation was bifurcated into two for administrative wings.
Post the bifurcation of the State, the APSRTC moved out of Hyderabad and established its headquarters in Vijayawada. The TSRTC decided to make use of the vacant space to generate additional revenues. “We thought of making use of the vacant spaces as there is no point in keeping the building empty. It only adds to the maintenance expenditure and serves no purpose,” said a senior official. A separate pavement was laid to reach to the ‘A’ Block recently, so that the future leaseholder can use it.
Some corporate companies have shown interest in taking lease of the vacant space in the Bus Bhavan and approached the TSRTC officials. The Bus Bhavan is in a busy commercial area like RTC Crossroads. The vacant space spreads over one lakh square feet. The officials said the APSRTC is yet to turn it over to the TSRTC.
When asked, the TSRTC MD G V Ramana Rao confirmed that the APSRTC is yet to hand over the premises to the TSRTC. The Corporation has been facing accumulated losses of over Rs 2,000 crore and exploring avenues to generate additional revenue. As part of its efforts to generate more revenues, the TSRTC has opened petrol bunks in its open lands throughout the city and also trying to attract investors to build mini-theatres and malls, etc.
