Tirupati: The BSNL offices in Tirupati Telecom District wore a deserted look on Wednesday with the employees staged a protest at its head office on Wednesday. They were protesting the anti-government and anti-people policies of the Central government.

Addressing the employees, the CPM state secretary and former Rajya Sabha member P Madhu alleged that the BJP-led Central government with its false patriotism pushing forward the agenda of privatisation of various public undertaking organisations.

The Centre was in no mood of taking care of the welfare of the people. Expressing the solidarity to the employees, he said the NDA government at the Centre, was having more interest on highlighting the demonetisation and GST in which it failed miserably in achieving the desired results.

The CPM leader said BSNL employees’ demands were fair and just as they are seeking retirement benefits and settlement of pending arrears of second PRC. The formation of subsidiary tower companies will undermine the hard work done by the employees.

Every employee will look for a secured future after serving for about three decades, but the government has denied the employees such a future by replacing the Old Pensionary Scheme (OPS) with the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), criticised Madhu.

He added that the TDP government also neglected the work done by BSNL in Amaravati. The All Unions Association of BSNL Convener YS Raju said that their demonstration would conclude on Thursday. MLC Y Sreenivasulu Reddy, CITU district secretary Kandarapu Murali and others took part. RTC, LIC, TTD and other employee unions also participated in the demonstration.
