Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) officials are planning to clear heaps of garbage at Ramachandrapuram dump yard. It may be noted RC Puram and other surrounding villagers are facing chronic health problems with groundwater and soil pollution for the past one year.

So far, there is no alternative place for dump yard in other mandals, Renigunta and Chandragiri.

Even commencing of bio-waste power generation plant has been delayed due to non-availability of suitable land. In the wake of this situation, MCT officials have taken a decision to implement biomining system at RC Puram dump yard.

Nearly 2.75 lakh tonnes of garbage were dumped at RC Puram dump yard in the last five years. For clearing of garbage from existing dump yard, officials have consulted one private company based at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The private company technical team came to Tirupati and explained how to clear the tonnes of garbage with biomining methods in a scientific manner within stipulated time. They explained to Commissioner Ch Harikiran that at least Rs 20 crore to Rs 25 crore funding is required for clearing of garbage.

According to MCT officials, in the biomining method, the garbage was first segregated as combustible and non-combustible waste.

For segregation of garbage, the company staff will use magnetic equipment, conveyer belt, turn mill and other advanced technology machines. After this process, they send combustible material to cement companies for reuse.
