Kurnool: District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetty has said that except two unfortunate murders, the crime rate in the district has declined compared to previous years. Several cases have been solved in a short time with the help of latest technology. Around 122 orphan children were identified and of them, 110 were handed over to their parents.

The SP addressed a press conference on 2017-year crime round up at Ved Vyas Auditorium here on Thursday. He said Devara Gattu (Bunny Utsavam), a famous festival celebrated at Holagunda in Alur mandal where people involve in stick fight was brought under control. The department successfully conducted the Ganesh immersion along with the Bakrid festival, safeguarding the communal harmony, he stated.

Jetty said the district police had cracked the great highway robbery involving Rs 5.5 crore within a fortnight and a gold theft at Kolimigundla. Burglaries have been reduced after the district police had launched the Lock House Monitoring System (LHMS) App, the SP said and stated that the cops were successful in curbing red sanders smuggling. He further said traffic has been streamlined in city and indication boards have been set up at important junctions.

We could able to infuse confidence among people with cordon search operations, Naka Bandi, Palle Nidra, surprise inspections and visible policing, he stated. Giving a comparative statement, the SP said 8,226 cases have been registered in 2016 and in 2017 the number of cases declined to 7,738. The SP stated that road accidents and deaths have reduced drastically. In 2016, total accidents were 1,930 while in 2017 the number reduced to 1,643. ASPs, DSPs, CIs and other police personnel were present.
