Vijayawada: CPI national secretary Dr K Narayana on Sunday said the BJP is not serious on the development of Andhra Pradesh as it feels that the southern States are not its vote bank.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he said that it was also one for the reasons for delay in Polavaram Project. The Polavaram Project is getting delayed due to political disputes between the Union and State governments, he alleged.

The cofferdam works were stopped and 65,000 acres of land should be acquired for the project, he said. He asked how the project could be completed without paying compensation to victims. He wondered why the State was not getting any benefits even when a representative of the State M Venkaiah Naidu has been elevated to the post of Vice-President of the country.

He also wondered why Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who had earlier adopted a pro-active role on the Polavaram Project surprisingly remained silent now. He flayed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for not fulfilling the promises made in AP Reorganisation Act and releasing sufficient funds to the State on par with other States.

Narayana said the ensuing CPI national council meeting would discuss on communalism, attacks by Sangh Parivar and other issues. The party would decide on its future course of action at the meeting, he said. CPI State joint secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao, Krishna district secretary Akkineni Vanaja and city secretary D Sankar participated.
