The Guntur Medical College (GMC) has sent a proposal to Medical Council of India (MCI) to sanction 45 additional PG medical seats and making necessary arrangements to fulfil the conditions in this regard.

Guntur: The Guntur Medical College (GMC) has sent a proposal to Medical Council of India (MCI) to sanction 45 additional PG medical seats and making necessary arrangements to fulfil the conditions in this regard. The college has applied for additional seats in general surgery, general medicine, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics and sent the proposal to MCI.

Following suggestion of MCI, the government medical colleges in the state are applying for additional PG seats. Taking infrastructure, faculty, laboratories and other facilities into consideration, the MCI will give its nod for additional seats.

At present, the GMC has 100 PG medical seats. The Central government took the decision to enhance PG medical seats after the bifurcation of the state as most of seats in the super specialty courses went to Telangana state. Taking this into consideration, the MCI is sanctioning additional seats.

Guntur Medical College principal Dr G Subba Rao said the college has sent a proposal to the Medical Council of India to sanction 45 additional PG seats. A team is going to New Delhi soon to complete formalities with the MCI. The principal expressed confidence that the college will get additional PG seats from the next academic year.
