Akiveedu: The Public Works Department (PWD) officials seized two diesel engines involved in illegal lifting of water from Venkayya-Vayyeru Canal at Ai Bhimavaram - Akiveedu road here on Monday.

PWD Assistant Engineer Sai Avadhani said that a complaint was received stating that some people were lifting water from Venkayya-Vayyeru canal near fisheries office at Akiveedu-Ai Bhimavaram road and filling up the water tankers to sell the water. The officials reached the spot and found the illegal pumping of water from the canal and seized two diesel engines from the spot.

The AE said that earlier he warned the water tanker owners and workers not to indulge in the theft of water from the canal and a complaint was lodged with Akiveedu police. Even then, the tanker owner continued his illegal activity.

The AE said that the PWD officials and staff were on the canals to supply water to the crops and at this time, this was happened.He said the person was selling the water in the neighbouring Krishna district.
