Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) officials have intensified efforts for construction of 10,000 houses under PMAY scheme in Jakkampudi colony, Dal mill area in Poornanandam Peta and other parts of the city.

The Union government sanctioned 28,152 houses to Vijayawada city under PMAY as part of Housing for All (HFA) scheme. So far, the revenue department handed over land for construction of 10,000 houses in Jakkampudi village.

A team of officials from APTIDCO, the revenue and VMC will inspect these sites in one or two days to finalise the housing project. A senior official of APTIDCO said tenders have been finalised for construction of 10,000 houses in the first phase in the city.

District Collector B Lakshmikantham may inspect the sites either Tuesday or Wednesday for construction of 10,000 houses. The Telugu Desam government is under fierce attack from the Opposition parties particularly the YSRCP and Left for its failure in the construction of houses in Vijayawada city in its four years of rule.

The State and Central governments sanctioned subsidy of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh to the beneficiaries. Now, thousands of beneficiaries are not able to avail the benefit extended by these governments.

After many months of consultations and discussions, the State government has recently finalised tenders for construction of 10,000 houses in Jakkampudi. The Revenue department has handed over more than 150 acres, which include some hill area in Jakkampudi village.

A revenue official said at least 7,000 houses can be constructed in Jakkampudi village with the transfer of land to APTIDCO. The VMC will select the beneficiaries. Local MLAs play an important role in selection of beneficiaries. A large number of aspirants have been meeting the TDP leaders and requesting them to allot the houses.
