Visakhapatnam: Now, tourists can enjoy a long beach front drive and have fun time, with the state government deciding to remove 13 major and medium curves between the Visakhapatnam–Bheemili Beach Road and convert it into a six-lane one.
As part of the exercise to make the Visakhapatnam as an global tourist hub, the state government has taken a decision to remove curves in the 26-km long stretch between the Visakhapatnam–Bheemili Beach Road.
The government also decided to establish and create beach front tourist attractions between Bheemili and Visakhapatnam beach front.
In fact, there is a double road between Visakhapatnam and Bheemili with a clear view of blue waters. However, there are number of dangerous curves existing between the two marine locations.
The 26-km long beach road is one the beautiful tourist attractions in the city. However, till 1997, there is a very narrow road between Visakhapatnam and Bheemili. During his first tenure as Chief Minister in 1998, N Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to cut the two hills near Kailasagiri and lay good road. As part of the tourism promotion activities, a road was laid, and it was further developed into double road with central lighting.
As the Bhogapuram international airport coming up, the state has decided to construct hassle-free road connectivity to air passengers from Bhogapuram-Vizag-Bhogapuram and decided to lay six-lane road between Visakhapatnam and Bheemili.
During the recent collector’s conference held in Amaravati, Naidu directed Collector Pravin Kumar to make the proposal for removal of all the curves between the two ends.
“It is a challenging task to make the road into a six-lane without curves. However, once the 26-km direct road completed, it will be an international tourist attraction and more number of tourists will come up on the beach front.
In fact, the six-lane road project proposals have been submitted to government at an estimated cost of Rs 270 crore. But, the project cost will be revised with new proposal to remove all the curves,” a senior official of Roads and Buildings told The Hans India.
