Nellore: Sullurpet police booked a case against Municipal Vice-Chairperson G Eswaramma for misuse of money which was borrowed from the State Bank of India to the tune of Rs 9 crore. District Cooperative Officials have lodged a complaint with the police for recovery of dues of around Rs 7 crore.

According to the police, G Eswaramma represents a voluntary organisation, CAMEL, and she borrowed Rs 9.21 crore earlier from the SBI in the name of CAMEL Women’s Cooperative Society for giving loans to the Self-Help Groups. As per the complaint, the organisation had not repaid dues of Rs 7.08 crore for many years.

They took the vice-chairperson into custody for interrogation, but she was freed with local ruling party leaders mounting pressure on the cops. Now, she is said to be absconding from the town and the police personnel launched a hunt.
