Vijayawada: Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad announced here on Tuesday that noted violin maestro Annavarapu Ramaswamy would be bestowed with the award instituted by the state government in the memory of the late musician Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna.

Addressing the media, the Deputy Speaker recalled that Mangalampalli was a great musician who brought laurels to the Carnatic music. The state government instituted the award in the name of the great musician and a committee was formed to select the recipient this year.

The committee unanimously selected the name of noted violin maestro Annavarapu Ramaswamy for the award which carries a citation and Rs 10 lakh cash. Buddha Prasad thanked the Chief Minister for instituting the award.

Stating that Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna and Annavarapu Ramaswamy were the disciples of the noted musician from Vijayawada Parupalli Ramakrishnaiah, Mandali said that Mangalampalli used to celebrate the birthday of Annavarapu. It is an honour to the people of Andhra Pradesh to felicitate Annavarapu and present him with an award in the name of Mangalampalli, he said.
