Vijayawada: Assistant engineer of irrigation department was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 19,000 from a contractor in Machilipatnam for doing a favour.
According to the ACB officials, the accused officer, B Anil Kumar, of irrigation department, was trapped while accepting the bribe of Rs 19,000 from the complainant P Lakshman at his residence in Machilipapatnam to sanction pending bill of Rs 5.50 lakh.
The contractor has executed a side wall works of a groundwater canal at SN Gollapalem. The accused had demanded the bribe, in turn, the complainant informed the officials. Later, they laid a trap and caught the official red-handed while accepting the bribe.
