Police foiled the indefinite fast launched by the Bhajarang Jute Mill Parirakshana Samithi leaders and jute mill workers at Pattabhipuram and took 110 leaders and workers into their custody while they were protesting to mount pressure on the government to reopen the jute mill. 

Guntur: Police foiled the indefinite fast launched by the Bhajarang Jute Mill Parirakshana Samithi leaders and jute mill workers at Pattabhipuram and took 110 leaders and workers into their custody while they were protesting to mount pressure on the government to reopen the jute mill.

They launched the indefinite fast at jute mill here on Wednesday to exert pressure on the government to reopen the jute mill to generate employment to the workers.

Former MLC KS Lakshamana Rao, CPI district secretary Jangala Ajyay Kumar, party city secretary Kota Malyadri and jute workers participated in the indefinite fast. As soon as they launched the indefinite fast, CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna rushed to the spot and expressed his solidarity with the fasting leaders.

He demanded that the government take steps to reopen the jute mill immediately and warned that they will continue till the mill is reopened. As soon as they started the indefinite fast, police rushed to the spot and foiled their indefinite fast.

They took CPI district secretary Jangala Ajay Kumar, city secretary Kota Malyadri and 100 Bhajarang Jute Mill Parirakshana Samithi leaders and workers to Nagarampalem, Pattabhipuram and other police stations. Later, they released them on bail.

Police took YSRCP Guntur city president Lella Appi Reddy into preventive custody in Guntur to avoid untoward incident. Bhajaang Jute Mill Parirakshana Samithi leaders and activists raised slogans against the government for delay in reopening of the jute mill.
