Akiveedu: Indiscriminate encroachments on drains in Akiveedu have been resulting in inundation of some colonies.

Drains such as Andevari Bode, Ganganamma Kodu and Mulalanka Bode were occupied illegally by encroachers posing flood threat to various colonies.

Residents of Amrutha Rao Colony turned out to be victims when drainage water entered houses and people had to wade through knee-deep sewage on Wednesday.

Illegal occupancy of Andevari Bode made the drain water to stagnate and flow into the near-by Amrutha Rao Colony.

The residents of colony were provided food by Ambati Ramesh Voluntary Organisation.

The residents complained that though the panchayat was the biggest in State, the panchayat officials and governing body failed to prevent the colony from getting inundated.

Ambati Ramesh said that permission was being given to construct new apartments without developing drainage system in the panchayat.
