Nellore: Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary K Ramakrishna said they would stage protests againstthe policies of the State and Central governments for failing to provide Minimum Support Price to farmers. Interacting with the media in the city on Saturday, the CPI leader alleged that the Union government had failed to implement recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Commission to provide remunerative MSP.

Centre had not given exact MSP to the crops such as paddy, maize, jowar and also pulses even though the cost of cultivation and labour charges increased significantly. He also said that the prices of fertilizers, pesticides and cost of cultivation had increased during the last four years. ‘Telangana government has been providing support of Rs.8,000 to the farmers for cultivation. Karnataka government had waived loans up to Rs.34,000 crore to the farmers. But, the AP government had not done anything to the farmers,’ alleged Ramakrishna.

He said that they are going to conduct a round table meet with the leaders of Famers’ Associations, Agriculture scientists, leaders from political parties to discuss on the issues of farmers on July 10 in Vijayawada. Ramakrishna also said that they would launch a series of protests to get MSP and also to resolve issues of farmers. He appealed to the state government to distribute the CJFS lands to the beneficiaries who are dependent on the lands without any involvement of TDP leaders. CPI leaders Parthasarathy, Nagendra Sai andSrinivasulu were also present.
