Gautam Sawang transferred
As expected the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, D Gautam Sawang was transferred on Saturday The Department of General Administration, Government of Andhra Pradesh, issued orders transferring Sawang as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement and exofficio Principal Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada: As expected the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, D Gautam Sawang was transferred on Saturday. The Department of General Administration, Government of Andhra Pradesh, issued orders transferring Sawang as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement and ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The orders will come into force with immediate effect. Gautam Sawang was in the race till the last minute for the post of DGP. But, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had chosen R P Thakur, former DG of ACB in the last minute. Later, speculations were rife that Sawang too would be transfered and may be elevated to the State-level post. On the other hand, discussions also started in the city on who will be the next CP of Vijayawada.
Sawang had introduced several reforms during the last three years and successfully checked call money business and anti-social activities of the financers and, rowdies etc. His efforts to help elderly people, women and children evoked good response and applause from the denizens. By and large, the city was mostly peaceful in spite of regular protests on Special Category Status (SCS) and other issues during the last three years.
Sawang directed the city police to conduct awareness meetings on traffic throughout the year particularly to the young, drunken drivers and violators of traffic rules. He also maintained cordial relations with the political leaders, NGOs and the media.
