Rotary to donate Gigital Mammography to SVIMS
The Rotary Club of Tirupati has decided to donate a high end digital mammography to SVIMS as part of Global Grant project in place of analog mammography which they donated in 1999 and was obsolete now

Tirupati: The Rotary Club of Tirupati has decided to donate a high end digital mammography to SVIMS as part of Global Grant project in place of analog mammography which they donated in 1999 and was obsolete now.
Rotary Foundation International has approved the project and granted 142,521 US dollars (Rs 98 lakh) for project cost.
“We are pleased to participate in women’s cancer initiative, a mega project of SVIMS by donating sophisticated digital mammography as suggested by SVIMS Director Tirupati Dr TS Ravikumar,” commented the members of Rotary Club of Tirupati.
According to Dr Ravikumar, who is also a cancer specialist, this timely gesture will provide impetus to the SVIMS Rayalaseema Women’s Cancer Initiative.
SVIMS & Rotary will launch community-level women’s cancer awareness campaign throughout the year by organising rural and other outreach camps.
In addition to breast cancer, women will be screened for other common cancers such as cervix & oral cavity using a ‘bundled screening’ strategy.
He explains that, towards the overarching goal of reducing the ‘burden of cancer’ in the region of Rayalaseema, several concurrent initiatives will be setup towards prevention & early detection of the above cancers, with time– defined targets.
They are, two-year goal of diagnosing cancers in stages I & II (rather than III & IV as it is happening now); five-year goal of increasing cure of 5-year survival; and 10-year goal of overall decrease of cancer burden.
A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Rotarians Prof P Murali and C Balgurappa to deal with the issue.
Other rotarians R Chandrasekhar, Purushottam N Patel and KS Nagabhushanam took proactive part for the correspondence and fund raising.
