Series of burglaries in Dhone pose a challenge to police

• Burglars are targeting the locked houses in Dhone
• Fleeing to far off places without leaving clues

Kurnool: With the series of burglaries, residents of Dhone are fearing to leave the town for a couple of days. In the last two months, five burglaries were reported.

The cops are yet to crack the cases as the burglars were not leaving any clue. Burglars struck the house of Lakshmi Devi near Oneiro High School and decamped with 30 tolas of gold and Rs 3 lakh in cash on Tuesday when the family members left for Hyderabad.

Fifteen tolas of gold and Rs 70,000 in cash was burgled from the house of Mangali Prasad in the month of June. Burglars decamped with 60 tolas of gold and Rs 7 lakh in cash from the house of a government teacher Gopal Sharma.

Another 8 tolas of gold was also stolen from the house of a railway employee and burgled 30 tolas of gold and 1 kilo of silver from Shiva Jewellers at Gandhi Circle in the town. After committing burglaries, gangs are fleeing away to far off places as trains are available to Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Kerala from Dhone railway station.

Several train robberies were also reported in the recent times near Dhone despite presence of railway cops in the compartments. The residents of Dhone are blaming the cops for their failure in curbing the burglaries.

A resident of Dhone on condition of anonymity said the town is mostly covered with CCTV cameras. He expressed doubts whether the installed CCTVs are functioning or not.

If they are functioning, the cops might have identified those who have committed burglaries, he said.

During the daytime, burglars are conducting recce and identifying the locked houses in the guise of paper boys, utensil sellers and cloth merchants.

In the night, locked houses were being looted by burglars. Dhone residents are asking the Police department to step up the security in the town.
