Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched high energy density storage device developed by Bharat Energy storage technology at Praja Vedika today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that as part of second phase of power sector reforms priority is being given for alternative energy sources and storage facilities. Stating that solar and wind energy turned as a sustainable energy at present and asked the students to concentrate on research programmes and innovation. Citing the power reforms introduced by him during 1997-98, he said now the state turned as a power surplus state.

The Chief Minister said there is a huge potential for solar energy and no other country can beat India in solar energy. He said a 1000 mw solar energy plant was setup in Kurnool district. In addition solar pumpsets were distributed to farmers in Vizianagaram district. He stressed the need for cost effective power production.

The Chief Minister said 100-150 acres of land would be allotted to develop storage facilities in the state. He said that the Amaravati city would be developed as a green city with 50 per cent green cover and renewable energy. He said there is huge demand for energy storage in agriculture, industries, transport, telecom and disaster management sectors. He said smart power grid would be developed in AP. Later the Chief Minister launched Renewable purchasing obligation compliance monitoring and reporting web tool of AP.

The IIT Roorkee entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with Bharat Energy Storage Technology (BEST) pvt ltd on renewable and sustainable energy technologies for research and industrial collaboration.

The Griffiti university, Australia also entered in a MoU with BEST in energy storage sector.

Earlier Dr Patrick Glynn, chairman, Bharat Energy Storage Technology explained on the functioning of BEST thermal storage cell. He said unlike standard battery technology the BEST thermal cell can be charged and discharged simultaneously. This does away with power outages and guarantees constant electricity supply as the BEST thermal cell effectively decouples generation from utilisation of electrical energy.

Dr Vijay Maddali, CEO, Bharat Energy storage technology said the high energy density storage technology steer our future towards a clean sustainable, green and energy secured future. He said the smallest unit of BEST to be unveiled shortly with 300 kwh unit, that can supply power to 80 houses.
