Vijayawada: Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao 2018 Cultural Awards were given at a programme organised by Potti Sriramulu Telugu University here on Sunday.
Minister for Labour, Employment and Factories Pithani Satyanarayana was the chief guest at the programme.
He warned that name boards of shops, restaurants and shopping complexes should be written in Telugu. He informed that the failure to do so would attract fine of Rs 2,000 which was only Rs 500 earlier.
Later, Telugu artistes, poets and Telugu linguists had expressed their happiness over changes in Act to support Telugu language.
Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad, Sushila, playback singer, Dr K V Ramanachari, SV Satyanarayana, vice-president Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, and other Telugu language lovers participated in the programme.
Kodada Mallikeswara Rao of Telugu Malli organisation, Australia was presented Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao Cultural Award 2018 on behalf of Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao International Telugu Centre of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad on the occasion.
