Vijayawada: The Prakasam Barrage received floodwater continuously on the fourth day on Tuesday. However, the flood water flow reduced from 50,000 cusecs to 20,000 cusecs as no rains were registered in Khammam district.

According to the officials, they closed the 35 crest gates. Presently, only 25 crest gates were opened releasing water into the sea. As many as 18,125 cusecs were registered at the Prakasam Barrage on Tuesday at 7 pm. As many as 9000 cusecs are being released into the canals in Krishna delta in the limits of Krishna and Guntur districts.

The officials continued the water release in the same quantity into the canals during the last four days. Nearly, 20,000 cusecs of floodwater is coming from Munneru tributary, said barrage assistant engineer Dinesh. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that the flood water level might further go down in the next 24 hours. He also said that the floodwater might resume again if the rain lashes the upstream areas.
