Incessant rains for the past three days have thrown life out of gear in Andhra Pradesh. The rains have damaged the roads and highways and flooded low-lying areas at many places. In several low-lying areas, rain water runoff entered into the homes causing untold inconvenience to the common man.

Heavy rains are also causing most rivers, including Godavari and Krishna to swell. The water level at Dhowlaiswaram barrage near Rajahmundry has reached 14.7 feet and the irrigation authorities have discharged 14.37 lakh cusecs into the sea. The second level alert has been issued at the barriage.

Meanwhile, Tammileru reservoir is getting heavy inflows and due to this, a breach has been reported near Linga Rao Gudem causing flooding of Madepalli, Jallipudi and Kovali villages. With the low area of depression continuing to hover off coastal region, heavy rains are being predicted in both coastal Andhra and Telangana on Tuesday also. The authorities have asked the fishermen not to venture into the sea. In view of the rains, the officials have announced a holiday on Tuesday for schools and anganwadi centres. In view of the floods, 11,950 persons have been shifeted to safer places in West Godavari district.
