Visakhapatnam: Educational institutions celebrated the National Sports Day here on Wednesday. The District Sports Authority and Andhra University celebrated the National Sports Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, who was often referred as ‘The Wizard' for his incredible skills in hockey.

The President of Olympic Association, Visakhapatnam, TSR Prasad, the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, G Nageswara Rao, and the Director of Physical Education Department, Andhra University, N Vijay Mohan, the Olympian, MV Manikyalu, the Chief Coach of DSA (Vizag), June Gallyot, and others paid floral tributes to Dhyan Chand.

They said that India has clinched over 50 medals in the ongoing Asian Games-2018 and the country was blessed with immense sporting talent.
The District Sports Authority conducted sports and games competitions for boys and girls.

The competitions were conducted in kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, badminton, boxing, football, judo, weightlifting, hockey, taekwondo, athletics, volleyball, swimming, archery, handball, football and basketball.
