Vijayawada: The students of KCP Siddhartha Adarsh Residential Public School, Kanuru, made their own eco-friendly Ganesh for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on the school premises here on Wednesday.

The students in small groups made images of Ganesha in different forms and displayed them.

The school principal Dr K Bhavanarayana said that the students were enlightened on the ill-effects of Plaster of Paris (POP) and its harmful impact on the environment.

Students took a pledge not to use POP in future. He also emphasised on the need to teach the children to celebrate the festival with piety than with fun.

The art and craft teachers of the school informed the students that the old rituals of Indian culture are all environment friendly.

Such activities by children will create awareness on eco friendliness, in addition to bringing out their creative potential.

Hence all schools should encourage children to make their own Ganeshas for celebration at schools as well as in their homes, they added.
