Ongole: The Prakasam District Drug Dealers Association announced that it will be participating in the bandh on September 28 as part of the call given by the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), against the encouragement of government to the online pharmacies.

The PDDDA general secretary, Pavuluri Sridhar, treasurer K Ramanujam and other members said that the online pharmacies were a threat to the public health and the business of regular pharmacists in the country.

They expressed concern that the tech-savvy youth in the country can misuse the online pharmacies for purchasing the drugs that were banned in the country or buy medicines that require prescription against the law.

They said that without setting up a framework of rules and guidelines, the government encouraging the online pharmacies creates legal and ethical issues due to the sale of the drugs.

They said that the online drug stores were already publicizing their websites through media against the law and they demanded that the government ban them immediately.

They said that as per the statement of JS Sindhe, president of the AIOCD, they were ready to intensify agitation all over the country, if the government do not heed to their demand now.
