The police arrested three persons and seized gutkha worth Rs 1272 lakh from their possession here on Monday
Tadepalligudem: The police arrested three persons and seized gutkha worth Rs 12.72 lakh from their possession here on Monday.
Tadepalligudem Circle Inspector MRLS Murthy told newsmen that acting on the directives of the Superintendent of Police, they carried out search of vehicles near Juvvalapalem on Sunday night. They intercepted a vehicle carrying container stuffed with gutkha bags.
They detained driver Rudra Gowda and accused Syed Hussain. During questioning, the duo confessed to the crime. Subsequently, the police arrested another accused Ch Prasad for possession of gutkha packets.
The trio informed that the gutkha packets were being distributed from Itchapuram to areas like Rajamahendravaram and Tadepalligudem. The police seized 2,400 gutkha packets in each of 50 bags. The police also seized three bags of gutkha from Prasad. All the accused were produced before the court. A case was registered and the police are investigating.
