Srikakulam: The district headquarters, Srikakulam city, will get outer ring road (ORR) soon as state government gave its nod for its construction. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs 150 crore for ORR on the eve of Independence Day celebrations on August 15 here.

As part of it, district collector directed the revenue, municipal, survey department officials to identify areas to be covered under the ORR. As per preliminary preparations, ORR will cover 18 villages in five mandals located around the city.

ORR will pass through Vadada, Ramachandrapuram villages in Gara mandal, Ragolu, Ragolupeta, Gudem, Patrunivalasa, Peddapadu, Sanivada, Kallepalli villages in Srikakulam mandal, Domam, Thotapalem, Ponnada, SMPuram in Etcherla mandal, Kanimetta, Kinthali, Modalavalasa villages in Ponduru mandal, Vanjangi, Dusi villages in Amudalavalasa mandal.

The total requirement of land for the ORR is 298.80 acres of it 57.10 acres are government lands and 241.70 acres needed to acquire from private parties by paying compensation as per Land Acquisition Act 2013.

The city is spreading in all directions for the last ten years due to migrations from rural areas and the ORR is essential to cater traffic requirements.
The ORR is aimed to ease traffic congestion in the city besides providing improved roads.

A private consulting agency Lee is preparing design for the ORR and collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy has directed tahsildars of all five mandals to prepare details on land acquisition soon in the villages through which ORR will be passed.
