Amaravati: The State government provided free eye care to 5,06,085 people through e-Eye service centres. In addition to that, 3,11,276 people have received glasses free of cost and another 87,270 spectacles will be delivered soon through 115 e-Eye centres.

These centres are located at Community Health Centres in different districts. The online checkups have been conducted with the help of Apollo doctors, informed Medical and Health department officials in a press release on Monday.

These e-Eye centres were set up through Public Private Partnership mode and 115 centres are functioning across 13 districts. At these centers, along with eye tests, tests for sugar, glaucoma and other eye infections are done. Free treatments and goggles are provided subsequently.

Beneficiaries are required to provide their phone number with Aadhaar card. The name of the medical examiner will also be fed to the computer. Ophthalmic examinations are performed based on information on the computer once the patient arrives.

All the information of the patient is collected and recorded on the computer, followed by the eye test via fundus camera. The image from the fundus camera is then sent to the physicians at Apollo Hub in Hyderabad and Chennai. They look at the image and diagnose the patient's eye problem and send it back to the Community Health Centres (CHCs) via online.
