Visakhapatnam: The district administration conducted a review meeting here on Monday with all government and private hospital superintendents to prevent the swine flu at the entry level in the district.

As part of preventing the ailment, the meeting has decided to set up three swine flu screening centres at Visakhapatnam Airport, Railway Station and at RTC Complex to identify suspected swine flu passengers and to provide necessary treatment.

The meeting found that the disease was entering the city from various metro cities including New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad. While reviewing the preparedness activities, collector Pravin Kumar directed the medical and health officials to supply Tamiflu tablets at free of cost if they find any swine flu affected victim.

He said that the government has already procured Tamiflu tablets and kept available at all the hospitals, primary and community health centres. The tablets also should be made available at airport, railway station and RTC complex, the collector said.

In view of increased mobility of people between the neighbouring states due to festivals like Dasara and Pongal and movement employees between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, the disease will spread its tentacles fast, the collector pointed out.

He also directed the King George Hospital medical officers to set up an exclusive ward for suspected swine flu pregnant women and children below 12 years. Collector asked the medical officers in the rural areas to refer the suspicious swine flu cases to KGH and Chest Hospital. He also directed the private hospitals to send detailed health reports of affected people, whom they admitted, to DMHO.

He said health officials should be made available at the airport, railway station and RTC complex to scan the passengers who are suffering from cough, cold and fever and report them to the swine flu screening centres.

DMHO Ramesh said over 9 swine flu cases have been registered in the district so far and five patients have been discharged after treatment and four patients are undergoing treatment.
