Non-issue of licences delays sale of crackers in Krishna
With only three days left for Diwali, the festival of lights, there is no sign of sale of crackers in Vijayawada and other parts of Krishna district

Vijayawada: With only three days left for Diwali, the festival of lights, there is no sign of sale of crackers in Vijayawada and other parts of Krishna district.
The last few days before the festival are important to the wholesale and retail traders of crackers. If the traders could not sell the crackers now, they have to wait till next year for the sale.
Hence, the traders are eager to get the licence and to sell their stocks. The government started issuing of licences in Krishna district on November 1 only.
The government decided to issue cracker licences this year under e Pragati portal. But, due to technical reasons, the issuing of licence is delayed. The officials have made arrangements to issue licences in less than 48 hours under e-Pragati system.
Till Saturday, the department received and cleared over 500 applications across Krishna district, said an official verifying the applications.
The services of police, fire and revenue departments are brought under one roof for speedy disposal of licences. Till last year, the traders submitted separate applications at three different offices to obtain licence, which is valid for only one festival season.
The traders had to submit applications at fire department office, police and revenue to get the licence. But, this year, the system has been changed.
Under e-Pragati portal, the applicants can submit applications online even from home. The concerned department staff such as Sub-inspector of police, fire department staff and tahsildars will inspect the venues and issue the licence for the sale of crackers.
Krishna district has been chosen by the government this year for issuing crackers licence under e-Pragati portal. It is planned to introduce the system in other districts from next year if it works correctly.
The officials are collecting hard copies of applications for cracker licence at e-Pragati office located in RTC Bhavan, Pandit Nehru Bus station. Interested traders can visit the office at PNBS and submit the application.
With only three days are left for festival, so far, there is no sign of sale of crackers in the city. Traders are expected to set up temporary shops at Swarajya Maidan and two other places in the city.
