Many take part in city Marathon

Vijayawada: Hundreds of enthusiastic runners participated in Vijayawada Marathon organised by Shiram City and Vijayawada Runners here on Sunday. The Marathon was flagged off by Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao at D Address Mall, MG road.

The marathon was held in three various categories viz 21K, 10K and 5K. Children, women, youth, housewives, students and senior citizens participated in the run.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said lifestyle changes, job stress and other reasons were the main cause of ill-health these days. 

These Marathons would help transform a healthy city, he said and added that Marathons were no longer restricted to big cities like Hyderabad and were organised at the upcoming AP capital Vijayawada.

He further said that children participated in 5K Run as role models for society. Children should be encouraged in sports and exercise from the childhood to create self-confidence in them. Walking and jogging in the morning would keep one fit and healthy, he added.

Vijayawada Runnners organiser P Manideepak said that the association was organising the event form the last three years with the support of Shriram City.

Participants from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and other places took part in 21K, 10K and 5K events. Later, winners of the events were prizes.
