Anantapur: AP Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) has organised the ‘National Press Day celebrations at the Press Club here on Saturday.

Minister for Rural Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Kalava Srinivasulu participated in the programme as the chief guest.

Addressing journalists on the occasion, Kalava promised to build houses for all eligible journalists firstly to those who have house sites and secondly to those who cannot afford a house under the affordable housing programme.

Thirdly, house sites will be purchased for journalists, who do not have house sites apart from building houses for them. He also promised to take up the issue of introducing pensions to retired journalists in response to appeal of journalists to pay Rs 10,000 as monthly pension.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) GVG Ashok Kumar, who participated as guest of honour, has promised to do everything possible for the welfare of the journalists.

APWUJ State Vice-President M Ramalinga Reddy has thanked Ashok Kumar for donating a computer and a television set for the benefit of the Press Club.

Press Club President H Azad and senior journalist Bhogeshwar Reddy felicitated the Minister and SP on the occasion.
