Kakinada: CPM state secretary P Madhu alleged that the police force was acting in favour of SEZ management and suppressing farmers’ rights in the land acquired areas for SEZ in U- Kothapalli mandal in East Godavari district.

Speaking to media persons at Kakinada Sub-jail on Saturday evening, after meeting the farmers of SEZ area, the CPM leader said that a local leader P Subbi Reddy was arrested by the police four days ago and lodged in local sub-jail.

Madhu said that Subbi Reddy had been fighting for the last 13 years to save his eight acres of land forcibly acquired for SEZ purpose. The CPM leader said that earlier also Subbi Reddy was implicated in cases by police.

He demanded action on police for hand cuffing the leader of farming community. Earlier also, Subbi Reddy was imprisoned for 120 days, Madhu said.

Madhu threatened the government to intensify agitation, if Subbi Reddy was not released on bail by Monday.
