Amaravati: The proposed non-BJP parties' summit at Delhi for knitting an alliance to serve as a national alternative to the BJP, scheduled to be held at the Constitution Club in Delhi on November 22 has been postponed.

According to sources, the upcoming elections in four North Indian states have forced the postponement of the meeting. A fresh date will be announced after the results of the elections on December 11. It would be before the commencement of the winter session of Parliament in January, the sources said.

Though AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made the announcement after his meeting with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee at Kolkata, he, however, did not give any specific reason. But the sources, nonetheless, said that this was on account of a few anti-BJP parties staying away from the Congress in the Assembly elections currently underway. Once the elections are over, all the anti-BJP parties may not have any problem in being seen with the Congress at the summit, the sources said.

Naidu, speaking to mediapersons along with Mamata Banerjee, said that their mission was to take the BJP head on in the next Parliamentary elections by joining hands with parties who want to bring down the Narendra Modi's government. "There is a pressing need to save the nation and democracy.

We have to protect the institutions created by Acts of Parliament from being run down by the present dispensation. The CBI, ED, IT, RBI and similar institutions are under grave threat now," he said. Naidu recalled the kind of farce demonetisation had turned out and expressed concern over how petrol and diesel prices had gone up and how rupee value had plummeted.
