The death of a retired sanitation worker sparked protest by sanitation workers in front of the municipal corporation here on Tuesday

Tadepalligudem: The death of a retired sanitation worker sparked protest by sanitation workers in front of the municipal corporation here on Tuesday.

According to agitators, Tatikonda Manga (60) retired as sanitation worker in June this year. Since then, he was approaching the municipal authorities seeking retirement benefits. Pension and other benefits were denied by the officials, the protesters alleged.

Manga got depressed when he came to know that two workers who also retired along with him were given pension and other benefits. Subsequently he fell ill and was hospitalised. He breathed his last in the hospital on Tuesday.

Sanitation workers and people’s organisations reacted sharply to the issue. They staged a protest by keeping Manga’s body in front of the municipal office.

The agitators raised slogans against officials who were responsible for Manga’s death. They wanted the government to take action against the officials.
