Vijayawada: A team consisting of four professors and 22 students from Millenia Institute, Singapore led by the Amaravathi Partnership Office, Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Singapore visited Capital Region on Tuesday.

Since the Singapore Government was involved in Amaravati Development, MTI organised students immersion programme to felicitate the students in understanding the local history, culture, society, economy, lifestyle and the development taking place in the new capital region.

E Sivanagireddy, historian and CEO, Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravathi accompanied the visitors and briefed them on historical and heritage significance of the Buddhist Rock cut caves at Undavelli (5th century AD) and Rudramadevi Birthday Inscription dated March 25, 1261 AD at Mandadam village.

Later, the team proceeded to Amaravati and visited the 125 ft high Dhyanabuddha sculpture, the Mahastupa and Archaeological museum in which the sculptural panels of the Stupa and Buddhist antiquities are on display.

Dr Reddy said that the team evinced keen interest in understanding the heritage, culture and vernacular architecture so that they can prepare sketches of the places they visited.

Dr Reddy explained the historical evolution of Dhanyakataka- Amaravati and how it served as the capital city of the Andhra for four times in the past.

The team includes Eric Tan, David D’souja, John Goh, Tereny, Xinxin and Tamilselvi Siva.
