Accused in financier’s murderer arrested

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada police have arrested two accused in murder case of financier Devarapalli Gagarin of Vijayawada.

The two accused, Maddala Suresh and Maddala Sudhakar, tried to kill the financier Gagarin by pouring petrol over him in his office at Vijayawada recently and he died in hospital while undergoing treatment.

ACP Ramana Murthy on Friday said that the reason behind the murder of Gagarin was financial disputes. Earlier, the father of the accused, Maddala Prasad, had purchased house with a loan from a private bank.

However, unable to pay the installments, he barrowed Rs 40 lakh from financier Gagarin by mortgaging a purchased house.

The ACP said that after the land was mortgaged, Gagarin registered the said property on his wife’s name. On knowing the information, the accused developed grudge on the financier Gagarin and the accused Suresh and Sudhakar planned to eliminate Gagarin for cheating their father.

The ACP said that both the accused went to the financer’s office and poured petrol on the financer and lit fire. The financer Gagarin came out of his office shouting for help while the culprits managed to escape.

Locals shifted the financer Gagarin to a private hospital for treatment.

Gagarin gave details of the both accused to the locals. One of the accused Suresh carried a knife with him to eliminate, if the financer escapes the petrol attack, said the ACP.
