Ongole: The gratitude and generosity of the Prakasam district public towards the unsung heroes of the armed forces and their families brought the Armed Forces Flag Day award for highest donations to the district for the third year in a row.

The Government of India introduced Armed Forces Flag Day on December 7 in 1949 to manage the welfare of defense personnel. The civil population of the country show their love and respect towards the forces by donating money by accepting the flags from the Army Welfare Department. The Sainik Welfare Department in the district collected Rs 12,66,381 this year.

In recognition of the big heart of the public, the Home Minister, N Chinarajappa felicitated and presented the award to the district Sainik Welfare Officer Manda Rajani Kumari in the secretariat at Velagapudi on Wednesday. Rajani Kumari received the award on behalf of Collector Vadarevu Vinay Chand also, as he was not able to attend the felicitation.
