Phethai impact: Horticultural damaged

Under the influence of the severe cyclone Phethai, the Visakhapatnam is witnessing strong winds with speed reaching above 60-kmph with moderate rain since late last night. With the impact of the strong and gale wind, several horticulture crops including banana, papaya, and vegetables were damaged at various places in the district. Due to the untimely rains, the sugarcane and paddy crops also damaged.
Meanwhile, as the situation is turning more threatening, a number of teams swung into action to rescue the people from the coastal villages. Already, the district administration shifted about 3,000 people from the coastal villages of Payakaraopeta, Nakkapalle, and S.Rayavaram. With the directions from the district collector the teacher and headmasters of all the government schools in Payakaraopeta, Nakkapalle, S.Rayavaram, Atchuthapuram and Rambilli mandals attending emergency duty.
The revenue officials shifted all the essential commodities and preparing food in the schools to distribute Phethai victims in the coastal belt.
Special rescue teams led by senior officials monitoring the situation and guiding the ground level teams to ensure zero human loss in the cyclone-affected areas
In the Visakhapatnam city limits, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) opened on control at each division of all 72 wards. The corporation opened 55 rehabilitation centers in the city limits. The corporation officials kept ready 100 drinking water tanks to ensure water supply in the inundated areas. A team with 700 officials and employees working to attend the services in Phethai affected areas in the city.
