Vijayawada: Everyone should feel donating organs as social responsibility in case of brain dead, said Time Hospital MD, Dr Puvvada Ramakrishna.

After successfully convincing the relatives of a brain-dead patient to donate organs, he explained about the importance of donating organs which would give new lease of life to a few patients who are in need.

Addressing the newsmen here on Saturday Dr Ramakrishna said that awareness should be created among people on organ donation and the media should spread it through its network.

He said that a 23-year-old youth Durga Prasad, who met with an accident at Enikepadu and sustained severe head injury, was declared brain-dead.

Later, the team of doctors explained the brain-dead patient's relatives about the importance of organ donation and finally convinced them with the support of Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan.

The heart, eyes, kidneys, lungs and liver were operated and were sent to super specialty hospitals which would save about 8 people who were in need of organs, said Dr Ramakrishna on the occasion.
